Genuary 2024

Together with the artist and designer Thomas Maria Helzle – screendream.de we dive into generative coding and animation, using the real-time programming software VVVV and Fuse.

I have listed some of my work for Genuary 2024 here, all the graphics and animations can be found on my YouTube channel.

Genuary 2024 – Day 1 : "Particles, lots of them"

An animation with a million particles.
We start out rather close in, seeing swirling motions and then we zoom slowly out for a wide view of the undulating mass of particles, in warm tones from white to yellow to dark orange to red.

Genuary 2024 – Day 5 : "In the style of Vera Molnár (1924-2023)"

Inspired by her work in generative art, I have created a series of 6 variations:

Variation 01 - organic shapes
Variation 02 - geometric shapes
Variation 03 - with soft geometric waves
Variation 04 - spinning and flying in space
Variation 05 - geometric waves with a cut-off point
Variation 06 - minimalist

Genuary 2024 – Day 11 : "In the style of Anni Albers (1899-1994)"

A field of 20 white rows on a light pink background. Black squares move along each white row. Over time, they come together to form a black rectangle, then separate again.

Genuary 2024 – Day 13 : "Wobbly function day"

An animation in which several sine waves are interlaced. They slowly oscillate into each other in the colours red, blue-green and white, leaving traces on the black canvas.

Genuary 2024 – Day 15 : "Use a physics library"

In the middle of the screen is a pyramid of orange cubes. White cones fall down from above, jumping and bouncing over the cubes, hitting the ground, rolling and gliding away.

Genuary 2024 – Day 27 : "Code for one hour"

An animation of a giant hourglass floating in the sky as the camera circles around it. A huge number of golden cubes sit at the top of the hourglass, exploding inside and falling through the narrow opening into the lower 'bowl' of it. The hourglass appears to be made of spherical clouds, almost transparent in the evening sky.

Genuary 2024 – Day 21 & 31 : "MediaPipe & Generative music"

On Day 21, I used the MediaPipe library for VVVV. It was great fun to explore and experiment with the Hand Detector. Let's paint! :-)
And so I've combined it with the prompt for Genuary 31 - Generative music. Well, generative in an analogue sense, with my beloved old piano.
